New Rarity in Set 3 & more!

Posted on 27th July, 2021 at 3:59pm CST
Thanks to an article on ICv2 we have tons of news about Set 3's release!

First up, the set will be named "Ace of Cosmos, Assemble!" and release on October 29th, alongside Starter Deck 3 "The March with the Dragon Lords" and Starter Deck 4 "New York Zombiepocalyps" which released alongside Set 2 in Japan. The Starter Decks contain the same number of cards as they did in Japan.

Set 3 is stated to contain a new mechanic called "[DR](Damage Reversal)" that activates when you've accumulated enough damage, likely similar to Cardfight Vanguard's Limit Break mechanic. There's also a new rarity called Superior Rares.

The set is stated to contain 122 cards, which breaks down into 47 ★, 21 ★★, 16 ★★★, 17 ★★★★, 6 Legend cards, and 6 Rulers, as well as an undisclosed number of Secret Rares and 49 of the new Superior Rares. Like previous sets, there will also be a box topper promo.

Superior Rares are very likely a new type of vanity rarity, given their high amount and that adding them with the normal rarities ends up with way more than the stated 122 card totals. 6 Rulers seems to confirm 3 new Rulers for the set, as with both previous sets. Most interestingly, the base rarities only total to 113 cards. English product information has not included Secrets in the total card count, and 9 is certainly less than the number of unique cards in Starter Decks 3 and 4. Perhaps 9 of the Superior Rares are reprints, and are thus counted in the total card type count?

EDIT: The ICv2 article has been updated, revealing the 49 count for Superior Rares to be a typo, and there are actually 9 in the set, which accounts exactly for the discrepancy of 9 missing cards in the set, thus nullifying our speculation on the rarity. With this new information, Superior Rares are likely just a new base rarity. How rare these will be and how their introduction will impact other pullrates is something we'll have to wait to see.

In addition, the product page for GTS Distribution reveals that there will be new Level 4 units featured in the set.
