Wonderverse Main Characters

Posted on 23rd September, 2020 at 10:57am CST
Hello everyone! Today we're covering a bunch of new unit settings, art, and tidbits of card effects that Ikeda has released over the last week. In another article later today, we'll also be covering new game information that Ikeda has released that is unrelated to new artwork.

Volnar Army, "Imperial Wizard, Shiori Rhodia"

I wanted a character art with an anime touch, so I asked kicori who is familiar with Buddyfight character cards, etc.

From the direction of the illustrations for Gate Ruler so far, there are many who have been confused. There have been thickly painted, 1940s style science fiction, sumi-e, picture book style, CG-style, and cartoonish drawings. But there had been no Japanese anime style drawings, so it can seem a bit unnatural.

Gate Ruler is made with a desire to give diversity to the illustrations. We want to refrain from excessive moe and erotic artwork, since for many people that will make it difficult to show the game to others, but we will do so without cutting off various themes as much as possible.

Unit Setting
Thirty years old and currently unmarried. She was sent to Volnar by the Yomajin Front as part of an experimental team, and currently acts as a guide in the Weskarot Empire. She was chosen for the team because she's a reincarnation of a human from Earth, and thus is already very familiar with Earth's cultures. (Since Volnar is a fantasy world, they also have people reincarnated from Earth.)

She loves cats and as far as her magic goes, she's a complete genius. Although she's a mature and elegant woman, she's still prone to daydreaming, and draws out her fantasies as manga. Her coworkers think that her zeal for her job comes from the fact that she gets to visit Earth several times a year and visit places she remembers from before her reincarnation, but it's actually because she's an active participant at doujinshi conventions.

As a card, she is a key piece of Special Summon decks, and has the effect of calling a cat. (?)

New illustration released!
ATLAS Event, "Buster Arm!!"

The special move of Wild Force's Captain, Busterkong, will be made into an event card with a heavy cost and powerful effect! It will be used as a powerful removal card.

"I'll make a trophy with your neck!!"

Gate Ruler Card Frames
From the left:
  • Wonderverse
  • Yomajin Front
  • Volnar
  • Exvaders

ATLAS is being changed from the last frame that was shown. It will be simpler and more solid.
The mark about the ATK symbol is only on Legend cards, and will not be on normal cards.

  • This is our first look at the Exvader frame in quite some time, and our first look at all at the high rarity version of the Exvader frame. Also, as per usual, the text on these frame showcases are all placeholder text.

    New Gate Ruler illustration released
    "G&G Unmanned Tank, Turret Turtle"

"Due to the interference of the Exvaders, a 1000km diameter dome-shaped barrier has formed in the Middle East."

G&G stands for a giant weapons manufacturer named "Guns & Gold". The upper management is dominated by those with the middle name beginning with G. (such as Gaen)

    New Gate Ruler illustration released

    "Platinum King, Albafort"

It lives in a cave covered in precious metals called the "Platinum Royal Palace". He felt a dark joy at welcoming those driven by greed, but impressed by those with noble hearts who devoted themselves to the battle against the Exvaders, he realized his shallowness.

I will also conquer. To a proud battle line.

This is another card art that is being borrowed from Force of Will. The original card it comes from is Avatar of Light Magic Stones. Also, Ikeda doesn't mention the Faction for this unit, but considering its a dragon its most likely from Volnar.

Yomajin Front Event Card "The First Dimensional Defense Battle"

Originally drawn for a solo exhibition by illustrator Takayama Toshiaki. It will be used for a Gate Ruler card. His illustrations, including new ones, will be included in Gate Ruler so if you're a fan of his work, please look forward to it!

    "Galactic Swordsman, Grand Galac"

It is one of the super robots who is one of the "Galaxy Heritage", one of the Wonderverse's greatest mysteries. The "Galaxy Heritage", which is thought to be left behind by an ancient super civilization, sensed the invasion of the Exvaders and awakened in various places. From a floating asteroid, from a stellar corona, from the underground of a planet...

There is no unity in the designs and functions, and it seems the ancient super-civilization consisted of innumerable cultural spheres. But strangely...despite the diversity in the Galaxy Heritage itself, no matter where you look in the Wonderverse, there are no traces of such a civilization?!

Who made them and where did they disappear?

The heritage of space. They're like toys left behind from an upside-down toy box...

The illustrator is Shosuke. He has recreated the image of "a robot from that time".

    (Sources: 1 2 3)

    Q: Can Grand Galac speak?
A: I can! Its a super robot with courage and a heart of justice!

Q: So can you ask him about the "Galaxy Heritage"?
A: He said he had courage and a heart of justice, but he didn't say he was smart.
    Maybe even they don't know...

By the way, Grand Galac is a Level 3 Unit found in a Starter Deck, but it is a vanilla with no ability. However! Its strong! Its stats are high because it has no ability! Its probably the card capable of dealing the most damage to the player in the launch environment.
If you are hit by this guy, you will die.

Mazinger Z series, no its a Brave series, either way its a nostalgic robot of those days, which is the closest? Everyone seems to have different views.

Apart from that, there are people who immediately jump to "plagarism of ○○" when they see a robot, but it seems the story is too old to know what is being homaged...unless you are over 50 years old.

Well, it should be called an orthodox evolution of Go Nagai's design, but I really hate people who say "plagarism" to robots. In the first place, there are only two kinds of robot designs:
  • A homage to other robots that embodies longing
  • Designed for a completely new world

It can be said that 80% of the world's robot designs are homages. So in the first place, the person who says "plagarism of ○○" is not qualified to talk about robots.

Grand Galac is a design that is an orthodox interpretation of Go Nagai's super robot designs, and there were many "at that time". The pose is also "that" too.

I want to make my voice louder.
Super Robots of the 1970s are completely different from Sunrise Robos and Brave Robos!
Don't think its a Brave Robo just because it has a sword.
The first Super Robot with a sword was Great Mazinger. After that was Atlanger.
(There are so many generations that only know Brave Robo...!)

  • Exvader Unit "Vamha"

"What are you? Where are you going to take me...?!"

It is a truly incomprehensible existence that embodies the "incomprehensible image" of the Exvaders.

The illustrator is MATSUMOTO EIGHT. The artist of Onikamas, Strange Flow and Gachanko Gachirobo from Duel Masters.

Its hard to call it "cool" or "scary". The design that you don't know how to feel about is one side of the Exvaders.

The white part looks like a "H" but it has nothing to do with the alphabet."

Also posted to our discord by Ikeda, was these new artworks and setting details!

    Midas G. Goldberg

CEO of a global munitions industry company. Weapons are sold in an illegal way to a friendly different world. It has expanded the war of another world, but it does not hurt his conscience.
Because he is proud of being an economic priest. Developing the economy is justice for him and his employees.

    Evil Dragon Priest

A priest that can be used for "Porvis", a demon dragon with evil and mighty power.
Through Midas G. Goldberg, he is trying to bring modern weapons to the fantasy world "Volnar".

    Win win

    Yomajin Front Engineer Unit "Inagi"

"Inagi". A war word from the Warring States period that refers to a simple defensive wall woven from vegetation. They bear it on their unit name and put their lives on the line for buying time.

    Personally, I really like EDF.

    (Source)

The design of Yomajin Front soldiers are based on real things like military exoskeletons, experimental aircrafts, land warriors, etc.
The designs are not as sophisticated as in ATLAS, and the style is now very futuristic.
    Its rugged, but also good.
I'd also like to release designs like AT and Kuratas

On both Twitter and our discord, Ikeda posted new information on the main characters of Wondervserse!

    Card Art: "ZAPZAPZAP!"

They are the protagonists of the Wonderverse's Card Story!
    From the left
    ○ Master Future Ed
A physicist with 10 PhDs and an authority on space engineering. And a great adventurer who pursues the mystery of space heritage. He holds the key to the galaxy's greatest treasure, the "Galaxy Holy Grail," and is a nemesis with the space criminal organization Crimenauts.

    (Source)

    Card Art: "Warp!"

    ○ Adriano
Cheerful Italian gate ruler. The gate ruler ability suddenly awakens when the card pack is peeled off in the city. He activates the "Warp!" Card and gets lost in the Wonderverse, but he happens to save his life with the helmet of his motorcycle. (Stupid universe ...)
While being rescued by Ed and adventuring with him, he gains the power to master the seven cards he brought from Earth. Eventually, as "Seven Card Adrick", it became feared by the villains of the universe.

    (Sources: 1 2)
    )[/quote]

While this could very much still be a just in lore thing, since Adriano went to Wonderverse from opening a pack, and he has 7 cards, that could mean Gate Ruler packs will be 7 cards.

    ○ Space Phantom Recruiter (green bastard)
An recruiter approached to recruit Adriano to the space criminal organization Crimenauts, but the spaceship was wrecked. He was rescued by Ed with Adriano, and while hiding his identity, he acted unwillingly.
I was thinking of betraying Ed by contacting Crimanuts if I had a chance ...?

    (Sources: 1 2)

    ○ Space journalist Christel
Paparazzi who forcibly boarded Ed's spaceship Verocto to cover the strongest hero in the universe, "Knights of the Round Table, Space Arthur".
Ed says, "There is no such thing as space arthur." Christel tries to find evidence, but Space Arthur somehow doesn't appear in the camera.
Also, Ed will disappear for some reason only when Arthur is present.

    (Sources: 1 2)

    Universal Robo Pojimu
    Ed's old companion.
Robonica's all-purpose robot, PZ-1, had a problem with the language program and was completely recovered as a defective product. Pojimu is the last one to escape being discarded.
He is loyal to his job, but he is ill-mannered and always complains.
He is constantly fighting with the Space Phantom Recruiter and is trying to get him out of the airlock.

    (Source)

    How about it?
The flavor texts of the Wonderverse faction will be centered around their adventures.
    Where is the Holy Grail?
    Who is Space Arthur?
Can Space Phantom Recruiter get back to the Crimenauts?
    What is Adriano's fate?!
We look forward to hearing from you!

    Each character's personality:

    Ed
A serious scholarly soul with a sense of justice. He has a strong sense of responsibility and is both physically and mentally tough. He once had little sense of humor, but due to Adriano's influence, has become better at small talk, and recently has enjoyed pranks and jokes with his friends.
He is not good with ghost type monsters.

    Adriano
An Italian who is pleasant and easygoing. He thinks its good manners to flirt with women. A troublemaker who gets emotional easily. His motto is "Tips for not thinking seriously".
A gunslinger with outstanding positive energy and was the only one able to unlock the limiter of the space treasure "Magic Blaster". He is a big ninja fan who likes accessories with shuriken patterns.

    Space Phantom Recruiter
Although he is a talented recruiter of the Crimenauts, he is incredibly unlucky. He is nasty, talented with computers, and good at deceiving others, but he doesn't believe in others. However, he has a strong sense of loyalty and belonging to the Crimenauts, and he always tries to contact them with an attache case whenever he can, but he always fails in some way. As he adventures with the others (and ends up battling the Crimenauts) he begins to feel like they are friends.

    Christel
As a journalist, her ability to think things through is second-rate, but her instincts are first-rate. Although she has strong beliefs and is straightforward, she has the best gossip knowledge in the universe and knows countless mysterious rumors.
A woman who has no interest in romance and lives in her work with no make-up, but when beauty can be used as a weapon, she becomes an entirely different person.

    (Sources: 1 2 3 4 5)

Well, being honest, I feel as if younger people look at the Wonderverse illustrations and think they're not very interesting. But in practice, no matter which cards they end up having lined up on their field, I'm sure they'll have fun with them. Not only that, but the ways the cards interact with one another is a lot more wild and hectic than they might think, and I'm sure they'll feel that in Wonderverse, anything could happen next!

Again, the retro-future sci-fi genre itself is a very unusual thing to have in a TCG. Wonderverse gives Gate Ruler a very unique aspect unto itself.

That is what I want to be understood most.

    (Sources: 1 2)

The world of "retrofuturism", which is the motif of Wonderverse, is old and unclear even to me who is 50 years old. You don't have to worry about not knowing it. I don't know much about it, but I'm enjoying it, saying, "There is such a world".

However its just the Wonderverse that is unfamiliar. Volnar is a traditional fantasy world that everyone is familiar with. ATLAS has the image of a recent First Person Shooter or an Avengers-like near-future science fiction. Yomajin Front is familiar to Japanese people.

You don't have to say "I can't understand!" just because of Wonderverse, right?

I mean, Crimenauts seem to be familiar.
    (Sources: 1 2)

    Atlas Unit "Werewolf Warrior"

"Thank you, Exvaders. I needed an enemy like you to control my bloodlust."

Vampires, Werewolves, Elder Gods...The ancient beings who joined the human race's joint force "ATLAS". They called themselved the Old World League, "OWL".

    (Source)

    Wonderverse Event Card "Schrodinger's Cat"

    "
  • Choose a card in your damage zone and play it"

Did "it" exist or not? It is a powerful card that expresses the observer like effect of a science fiction world. So to speak, life recovery and reanimation."

    (Source)

  • We had previously guessed that the game's life system would be a damage system similar to Cardfight!! Vanguard's, but with this it seems to be directly confirmed that this is what we're getting.

    Volnar Event Card "Blaster Vortex"

A card like "Mirror Force" with the ability to annihilate all attacking enemy units. After all, I want a card with great comeback potential. Its a Legend Card that is limited to one per deck. The number of Legend Cards in a deck is determined by the Ruler.
