Leader of the Crimenauts, Malevolus Prime!

Posted on 27th November, 2020 at 2:19pm CST
New Volnar Event "Star Song" has been revealed in this tweet by Nagomi Obata!

Star Song
Card Number: 2020GB01-014 ★★
Faction: Volnar
Level: 2
Attribute(s): Magic
Effect: Use Timing: Normal (During the main phase of your turn, play this from hand, set it and play it, or play it when you drive)
■ Draw 2 cards.
Flavor Text: The Yomajin Front troops, who were planning a courtesy visit to the imperial capital, were transported to the territory of the demon dragon Vastorus Rex. Can they escape safely while most weapons, including electronic devices, do not work?

A powerful draw 2 card! Not quite a Pot of Greed of course, as it is costed. Its closer to Nice One, but its cost is definitely heavier than Nice one, and also lacks Nice One's once per turn limit. Of course, for now, this is a card that is only useful for Knight and Beta. As we'll discuss later, Highlander is now known to share Alpha and Apprentice's active effects, so all 3 of them will be unable to benefit from this draw effect.

Also, Normal's reminder text answers a question we had yesterday, about whether Normal timing Events could be set.

New Wonderverse Event "Sudden Blackhole" has been revealed in this video by Gate Ruler S! Be sure to give it a watch.

Sudden Blackhole
Card Number: 2020GB01-102 ★★
Faction: Wonderverse
Card Type: Event
Level: 3
Attribute(s): Accidents
Effect: Use Timing: [Open Card] (When this card is in your hand or when you Drive, reveal and play it. Pay as much of the cost as possible.)
■ Destroy all enemy units.
Flavor Text: "I wonder if he's been sucked into many blackholes in his life."
"I'm used to it."

Another easy Yugioh comparison in Raigeki. Of course, it has a number of drawbacks for that power. For one, you have no control whatsoever of when it will activate. Whenever you happen to draw into it, it has to happen then. This card's reminder text also tells us new details about Open Card, telling us that Open Card will activate the card even if you lack the Energy to pay for it, and will eat up as much Energy as you have in those cases.

For Beta and Knight, this means that this will always burn through all your Energy when you draw it. If you can draw it off of a draw effect like "Star Song", however, you might be able to get it off for free. The card's risky elements are definitely felt more than Beta and Knight, since unlike with Alpha, Apprentice, and Highlander, it will disrupt whatever Energy costed plans they may have had planned.

Now with all that said, on to Ikeda's stream! We received information on two of the Rulers from Set 1. Thank you to the summary articles from Gate Ruler S and Super Solenoid for making this easier.

Male Version (a)

Female Version (b)

A-1 Apprentice
Card Number: 2020GB01-L1a ★ / 2020GB01-L1b ★
Card Type: Ruler
Life: 12
Attack: 4
Strike: 3
Effect: [Game Preparation] Nothing (0 cards in hand, 0 energy)
[Start of your turn] Drive 2 times.
[Rule] The costs of your cards are considered paid. You cannot have a hand.
Flavor Text: Please refer to the QR code for the Play and Deck Construction rules of this Ruler.
---
Deck Construction Rules
  • Level Limit: 50
  • CNT Limit: 16
  • Legend Limit: 2
  • Cards from up to 2 factions can be used

  • As we observed from the commercial a few days ago, A-1 Apprentice has 12 Life and 4 Attack, putting it 2 stat points above Alpha. Otherwise, its active effects are identical. It gets a slightly higher Level Limit, but the CNT Limit stays the same, it has a 2 faction limit as has been previously explained, and gets up to 2 Legend Cards!

    Male Version (a)

    Female Version (b)

    H-8 Highlander
    Card Number: 2020GB01-L1a ★ / 2020GB01-L1b ★
    Card Type: Ruler
    Life: 12
    Attack: 4
    Strike: 3
Effect: [Game Preparation] Nothing (0 cards in hand, 0 energy)
[Start of your turn] Drive 2 times.
[Rule] The costs of your cards are considered paid. You cannot have a hand.
Flavor Text: Please refer to the QR code for the Play and Deck Construction rules of this Ruler.
    ---
    Deck Construction Rules
  • Level Limit: 50
  • CNT Limit: 16
  • Legend Limit: 3
  • Cards from up to 3 factions can be used
  • Only 1 copy of each card can be played

  • H-8 Highlander is largely similar to A-1 Apprentice, with the same Level Limit, CNT Limit, and sharing all their stats and active effects. It gets a 3rd Legend Card and can pull from a 3rd faction, but those two benefits don't seem like enough to offset the drawbacks of only 1 copy per card. Of course, Ikeda has previously described H-8 Highlander as powering up all your cards, so there's likely some detail that we're still missing.

    Great Leader, Malevolus Prime
    Card Number: 2020GB01-096 ★★★★
    Faction: Wonderverse
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 3
    Attribute(s): Crimenauts
    Attack: 3
    HP: 5
    Strike: 2
Effect: [OD] Put the top two cards of your deck into its soul.
    ■ When another «Crimenauts» would be put from your field to your cemetery, put it into this card's soul instead.
    ■ "Devas Beam" Immediate: [Put 1 of this card's soul at the bottom of your deck] Choose 1 enemy unit, and deal 2 damage to it.
    ■ This cannot get [Soulguard].

The big boss card for the Crimenauts archetype! This definitely seems pushed for use in Drive Rulers thanks to the free 2 soul it gets under those Rulers. The effect is very powerful! "Devas Beam" is an incredible removal effect. Honestly, it feels a bit reminiscent of Inferno Armor from Buddyfight, but with built-in capacity to get more removal. It of course has strong synergy with "Guns & Gold Weapons Arsenal", as just 1 copy pushes "Devas Beam" to being able to one-shot 3 HP units which has felt like a common HP threshold that is great to be able to hit. Particularly, that would allow it to remove Busterkong. Its defensive-slanted stats makes such a high pressure unit difficult to deal with as well!

    Crimenauts Combatant, Badmans
    Card Number: 2020GB01-118 ★
    Faction: Wonderverse
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 0
    Attribute(s): Crimenauts, Bipoverse
    Attack: 3
    HP: 2
    Strike: 1
Effect: ■ "Spirit of Love" When your other «Crimenauts» would be damaged, you may destroy this. Then, that damage becomes 0.
Flavor Text: 2 days off a week. 6 working hours a day. Enhanced recreational services. They have more accurate personnel evaluation than anywhere else. Its a bad organization, but its good for its members.

A powerful support unit for Crimenauts! Between these two, Crimenauts definitely feel like a control oriented archetype. The synergy between Badmans and Malevolus Prime speak for itself, with Badmans keeping Malevolus Prime from damage and keeping it on the field, while Malevolus Prime will put Badmans into its soul to fuel another "Devos Beam"! Despite that power on a Level 0, it even still has 3 Attack to allow it to be decent at removing units, something that can always be supplemented with "Devos Beam".

    Horror Corps Commander, Gachihorror
    Card Number: 2020GB01-099 ★★★
    Faction: Wonderverse
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 2
    Attribute(s): Crimenauts
    Attack: 4
    HP: 5
    Strike: 1
    Effect: (hidden)
Flavor Text: He is a telepath and thinks of others, so he became a public figure chief who is trusted by everyone.

    Horror Corps, Samerian
    Card Number: 2020GB01-110 ★
    Faction: Wonderverse
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 1
    Attribute(s): Crimenauts, Shark, Beast
    Attack: 3
    HP: 2
    Strike: 2
    Effect: (hidden)
Flavor Text: The Horror Corps is a terrifying group feared even by their allies. However, all the members have excellent personalities.

Not much in details on these two Crimenauts cards, however Gachihorror seems pretty notable. Its another very defense slanted statline, and more notably, it has both [OD] and [TD], despite Malevolus Prime seeming so slanted towards Drive Rulers.

    Black Knight, Zahar
    Card Number: GPR-5
    Faction: Volnar
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 1
    Attribute(s): Warrior, Traitor, Darkness
    Attack: 2
    HP: 2
    Strike: 2
Effect: [Penetrate] (When this attacks and destroys a unit in the defensive zone, it deals STK damage to your opponent.)
    ■ This gets ATK+1 for each "Black Knight" in your cemetery.

For the last card reveal, we have the promo that will be distributed in the magazine book! As previously stated, this promo is a preview card of Set 2. Its a new card for the Darkness archetype. Penetrate is a nice effect to get, and this is by far the lowest Level we've seen it on. It doesn't seem to have taken much of a hit to stats at all to get it either, even featuring an Attack boosting. Of course, given how Darkness works, that effect may not be something to count on, as if the deck is working right, your cemetery should be getting emptied of your Darkness cards (which the Black Knights are of course a part of) pretty consistently.

The last thing showed in the stream was the full artwork of a Dragon-type Battle Weapon to be featured in Set 2! We previously saw a small portion of this art before. Its name is "Naruikazuchi"!

Even if the unit damaging the Ruler is destroyed during damage calculation, the damage continues. However, when "Time-eating Genie" ends the turn, damage calculation is stopped!

Advice to everyone playing with the free trial decks!

When your opponent's life is 2 or less, try activating "Photon Torpedo" to deal 1 damage at the start of your opponent's turn (before driving or drawing)! If "Time-eating Genie" appears, the opponent's turn is skipped, and its hilarious!

That's right. I didn't write whose turn on "Time-eating Genie". In other words, there can be unlucky occasions where your turn is ended by "Time-eating Genie".
