K-11 Knight Reveal & Many More!

Posted on 6th November, 2020 at 9:45pm CST
This morning, Ikeda held another livestream with tons of Gate Ruler information! Over 30 cards were at least partially shown, so we're going to quickly go over the other news we got before diving into all of that!

Thank you to this article from tcg-bloglife as well as this article from gateruler.net for helping us put this together.

1) The December 10th event is an officially run presale event, 2 days before the full presales begin at stores across Japan! Players will be able to buy each Starter Deck + 10 Booster Packs of the 1st set for 6000 yen, and will also be able to buy up to 10 packs of the High Rarity pack. The 6000 yen package is 500 yen more expensive than buying these products at MSRP, let alone the below MSRP prices many stores are offering, but this and the purchase limit is probably to avoid undermining card shops. Regardless, for our western viewers, that means we'll know the full card list of Set 1 a couple days earlier than previously expected. (Additional Source)

2) The current reservations were said to be going at a pretty fast pace. Its very reassuring to hear that, since the combination of the higher pricing and rules not being known before the order deadline made myself and others a bit nervous, so great to hear that its going well.

3) The Japanese Amazon listing for the magazine book is now up. It releases on December 14th, 2 days after presales at stores open, and contains 2 copies of a card from the 2nd set, a copy of the free trial deck, the rules, a card list of the 1st booster pack, an explanation of the game's setting, and a bunch of deck recipes from the development team which cover things like lists using the promo card, lists that build upon each of the starter decks, and lists that use the cards of the 1st booster pack.

4) The mysterious extra 3 cards of the 2nd Starter Deck! It was explained in the stream that these are Energy cards. As we'll see later, "K-11 Knight", which comes in Starter Deck 2, starts the game with 3 Energy, so these cards are used to track that since there's no charging system in play there. Since Starter Deck 1 lacks these 3 Energy cards, Apprentice would not work this way. No Energy is possible, but since Ikeda described Apprentice as "not using all of the Energy zones", it seems very unlikely. It may instead use some sort of charging system, like charging from hand or the top of the deck once per turn.

5) Answers on the defensive zone! As suspected, it is horizontal because units in it cannot attack, and just act as a shield for the player. Though as we've talked about before, this makes it the perfect zone to place units with more defense oriented effects, or units with good on play effects but little offensive presence. In addition, they do not block your Ruler from attacking as they did in Buddyfight.

6) More details on how CNT works! When damage is being placed and you check a card with CNT, that effect is resolved before it is placed as damage. This would allow the CNT effects which put themselves to the cemetery, like Absolute Barrier and All Things Must Die, to perform a "Miracle Heal" as in Vanguard. This isn't quite correct, be sure to check out our newer article for more accurate information on how CNT works.

7) Lastly, the Level on Units and Events has been confirmed to be an Energy cost! This was very heavily implied by everything we knew, but its nice to have the confirmation.

With all that said, on to the 30+ cards!

Starter Deck version (male)

Booster Pack version (female)

K-11 Knight
Card Number: GS02-L ★
Card Type: Ruler
Life: 11
Attack: 3
Strike: 3
Effect: [Game Preparation] 2 card in hand, 3 cards in energy
[Start of your turn] Choose 2 of your energy and activate them, draw 2
[Rule] Summon Right 2 (During your turn, you can normal summon twice per turn)
Flavor Text: Please refer to the QR code for the Play and Deck Construction rules of this Ruler.

We finally see a Ruler, in what is probably the final frame! We say that, but the frames here are differently colored. Probably just a Starter Deck vs Booster Pack difference. We had already learned that Apprentice started at 0 hand, but the skill-oriented Ruler starting at 2 hand itself is a pretty big surprise. Though with the 2 draw per turn you basically start with 4 cards, and over time it easily balances out compared to other games.

The Ruler also has several ways in which you must be careful with your resources, with its start of turn only recharging 2 of your 3 energy forcing you to limit your spending if you want to make big plays when it matters, and the Summon Limit of 2 preventing you from filling out both your 2 attack zones and your defensive zone, forcing you to choose between all-out offense or putting up a defensive unit. Of course, this also rewards you for keeping one of your units around.

This Summon Limit also impacts the Abyss Summon deck specifically. Previously it was thought you'd be able to summon over top of your own Darkness units to help fill out your cemetery, but with the Summon Limit, that is far less realistic.

Given the lack of mention of Drives on here, especially since World Master alpha had it on its effect text, it seems like Knight may not get Drives at all, which would make OD effects useless for the Ruler, which does line up with the complete lack of OD effects in Starter Deck 2.

Also, if you were curious, the QR code leads to https://gateruler.jp/rule/knight, but the page doesn't exist yet so you'll just get a 404.

Land Warfare Expansion Weapon "Guardian"
Card Number: 2020GS01-003
Card Type: Unit
Faction: Yomajin Front
Level: 1
Attribute(s): Military, Robo
Attack: 3
HP: 4
Strike: 2
Flavor Text: To make a robot...if the design doesn't convince the tax-paying older generation, it would reduce the government's approval rating, right?

Another Land Warfare unit! From this we can see that the stat difference between Level 0 and 2 is 4 points, as 1 Strike has been stated to be worth 2 stat points.

Yomajin Front Armored Unit "Jinrai"
Card Number: 2020GS01-005
Faction: Yomajin Front
Card Type: Unit
Level: 0
Attribute(s): Warrior, Military
Attack: 2
HP: 2
Strike: 2
Flavor Text: In Tokyo, which has been attacked by the Exvaders, space-time rifts occasionally occur. Soldiers repel the intruders until a Gate Ruler closes the rift.

A 2 Strike unit at Level 0! Its stats don't even bottom out either, so this card seems like a very good offensive tool to have.

Abyss Master, Aligieri
Card Number: 2020GB01-005 ★★★★
Faction: Volnar
Card Type: Unit
Level: 2
Attribute(s): Wizard, Darkness
Attack: 3
HP: 2
Strike: 1
Effect: [TD] (unreadable)
Flavor Text: Stare into the abyss. On the other side is the mystery of life.

Very likely another unit that performs Abyss Summons, like Priest from the Starter Deck. I do wonder if its TD is its Abyss Summon, or an effect that helps set up your cemetery?

This is another artwork from Force of Will, Grusbalesta, the Keeper of Magic Stones.

Marriage of Gold Rings, Paula
Card Number: 2020GB01-009 ★★★
Faction: Volnar
Card Type: Unit
Level: 1
Attribute(s): Wizard
Attack: 2
HP: 1
Strike: 1
Effect: [TD] (unreadable)
Flavor Text: I'll connect. Everyone's feelings.

Red Dragon, Crimson Syltis
Card Number: 2020GB01-011 ★★
Faction: Volnar
Level: 2
Attribute(s): Dragon, Fire
Attack: 4
HP: 5
Strike: 2
Effect: (unconfirmed, based on very early image) When this is special summoned by [Creation Summon], choose 1 enemy unit and deal 3 damage to it.
Flavor Text: Dragons. With virtually infinite lifespan, power, magic, and sometimes even wisdom, they are the pinnacle of the biological world that surpasses humans. However, those who do not know "unity" could never become the leaders of the world.

As a reminder, this effect comes from a very early stream. Name, stats, and attributes match up completely, though its possible this effect might've changed since then, so keep that in mind.

Huescalot Empire Imperial Footsoldier
Card Number: 2020GB01-014 ★★
Faction: Volnar
Card Type: Unit
Level: 0
Attribute(s): Warrior
Attack: 2
HP: 2
Strike: 1
Effect: [TD] (unreadable)
Flavor Text: Volnar's greatest force, the Huescalot Empire, is a successful example of unity and cooperation, effectively leveraging the strengths of various races to confront various foreign enemies.

Monster Wolverine
Card Number: 2020GB01-015 ★★
Faction: Volnar
Card Type: Unit
Level: 0
Attribute(s): Earth, Beast
Attack: 1
HP: 1
Strike: 1
Effect: [CNT] (unreadable)
Flavor Text: An animal that possesses evil power and soul due to the influence of the Exvaders. They are generally called demon beasts.

As a reminder, this card has previously been stated to have a [CNT] effect like a "Shield Trigger Creature" in Duel Masters, which would mean it plays itself when damaged. With these very low stats, it certainly helps justify what would be a very powerful effect.

Call Lightning
Card Number: 2020GB01-025 ★
Faction: Volnar
Card Type: Event
Level: 1
Attribute(s): Magic
Effect: [CNT] Play this.
Activation Timing: Immediate (Set it, and can be used at any time)
  • Choose and destroy 1 Level 0 or lower enemy unit.
Flavor Text: "There is no possibility for Yamada to use magic." Shiori continued speaking to Yamada, who was confused. "Your internal magic is zero. In other words, you can't use magic, but on the contrary, most magic won't work on you. Its a peculiar constitution called a displacer."

  • One of the few cards we got in full today! A nice little removal Event, that sets a good precedent of instant speed removal costing you a bit more than it costed your opponent to play the unit.

    Hydra Familiar
    Card Number: 2020GB01-029 ★
    Faction: Volnar
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 0
    Attribute(s): Beast
    Attack: 2
    HP: 2
    Strike: 1
    Effect: (unreadable)
Flavor Text: Familiars are creatures that have been bred at magical workshops to become a spiritual and magical booster for a wizard.

Given the name, this very likely this carries the Familiar keyword, which has previously been said to allow a card to be a substitute for a race when special summoning. Maybe Creation Summons specifically? It seems like Familiars will be involved with that special summon method specifically, but we don't really know how it works yet.

This is another artwork from Force of Will, this one being Hitomatano-Orochi, the Pet of Lenneth.

    Captain Liberty
    Card Number: 2020GB01-031 ★★★★L
    Faction: ATLAS
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 2
    Attribute(s): Awakened Being, Hero, Military
    Attack: 5
    HP: 4
    Strike: 2
    Effect: (unreadable)

This card when previously mentioned as being able to be played for no cost under the correct condition, and having a self resurrection effect.

Alice of the Holy War World
    Card Number: 2020GB01-035 ★★★★
    Faction: ATLAS
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 1
    Attribute(s): Awakened Being
    Attack: 4
    HP: 3
    Strike: 0
    Effect: [CNT] (unreadable)
  • (unreadable)
Flavor Text: She felt that the battle she'd been fighting alongside the ARK was reaching its conclusion. "I have to call everyone. My friends."

  • Just an interesting lore note, there's a small implication that since Alice is one of the people from the ARK, which are people from destroyed worlds, that she is actually the Force of Will Alice, and that world is one of those destroyed by the Exvaders within the Gate Ruler lore.

    Guibel of Wales
    Card Number: 2020GB01-036 ★★★
    Faction: ATLAS
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 3
    Attribute(s): OWL, Dragon
    Attack: 6
    HP: 4
    Strike: 2
    Effect: [CNT] (unreadable)
  • (unreadable)
Flavor Text: People watched the sun and were struck with their dreams. Oh, the dragon of the story has returned.

  • Primary Armored Unit, Victor
    Card Number: 2020GB01-037 ★★★
    Faction: ATLAS
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 2
    Attribute(s): Military
    Attack: 4
    HP: 3
    Strike: 2
    Effect: (unreadable)

    Buster Arm!
    Card Number: 2020GB01-040 ★★
    Faction: ATLAS
    Card Type: Event
    Level: 3
    Attribute(s): Military, Wild Force
    Effect: [CNT] (unreadable)
  • (unreadable)
Flavor Text: I'll make a trophy with your neck!

  • Oni the Island Captain, Kinomiya Kiba
    Card Number: 2020GB01-063 ★★★★L
    Faction: Yomajin Front
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 3
Attribute(s): Oni the Island, Keyman, Warrior
    Attack: 4
    HP: 3
    Strike: 2
    Effect: [CNT] (unreadable)
  • [TD] [OD] (unreadable)
Flavor Text: The true ruler of the Yomajin Front and who leads the demons according to the old contract. A true hero of justice who cuts down the madness.

  • A new Legend card! The one for Yomajin Front. His stats are incredibly low for a Level 3, so we're probably dealing with an extremely powerful effect.

    Dragon-type Decisive Battle Weapon "Aramisaki"
    Card Number: 2020GB02-066 ★★★★
    Faction: Yomajin Front
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 3
    Attribute(s): Dragon, Military
    Attack: 5
    HP: 5
    Strike: 2
    Effect: (unreadable)
Flavor Text: In response to the people's prayers, activate the machine dragon, Aramisaki!!

    Raguo the Ushi-oni
    Card Number: 2020GB01-072 ★★
    Faction: Yomajin Front
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 2
    Attribute(s): Superior, Beast
    Attack: 4
    HP: 5
    Strike: 3
Flavor Text: When I looked up at the night sky, there was a strange shape. Oh yeah, I returned to them at night.

Here we can once again see a 4 point difference between Level 1 and Level 2.

Land Warfare Expansion Weapon, Masurao 2nd Machine
    Card Number: 2020GB01-074 ★★
    Faction: Yomajin Front
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 2
    Attribute(s): Military, Robo
    Attack: 3
    HP: 3
    Strike: 1
    Effect: [CNT] (unreadable)
  • (unreadable)
Flavor Text: Succeeded in matching the magic engine and the superconducting plasma engine. Next is the union of three machines using the magic furnace!

  • Spirit of Hundred Eyes
    Card Number: 2020GB01-084 ★
    Faction: Yomajin Front
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 0
    Attribute(s): Superior
    Attack: 2
    HP: 1
    Strike: 1
    Effect: [OD] (unreadable)
Flavor Text: In order to reward the youkai who complained "We are also Japanese people! Let us join the army and fight!", the cabinet established a special national law.

    Black Kappa, Genkuro
    Card Number: 2020GB01-086 ★
    Faction: Yomajin Front
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 0
    Attribute(s): Superior, Darkness
    Attack: 3
    HP: 3
    Strike: 1
    Effect: [OD] (unreadable)
Flavor Text: Do you eat fish or eat people?

A Darkness attribute card within Yomajin Front! Stuff like this is interesting to note, in case it can be used as an alternative secondary color for Abyss Summon, or with a Ruler that allows more than 2 colors.

    Mechanized Infantry Battalion "Hyayuka"
    Card Number: 2020GB01-089 ★
    Faction: Yomajin Front
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 0
    Attribute(s): Military
    Attack: 2
    HP: 1
    Strike: 1
    Effect: (unreadable)
Flavor Text: The Yomajin Front is military alliance against the Exvaders centered in asia, composed of the allied forces of the "youkai", "demons", and "humans".

Space Knights of the Round Table, Space Arthur
    Card Number: 2020GB01-094 ★★★★
    Faction: Wonderverse
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 3
    Attribute(s): Galaxy Heritage, Hero, Robo
    Attack: 6
    HP: 4
    Strike: 0
    Effect: [CNT] (unreadable)
  • (unreadable)
Flavor Text: When the people of space are in a pinch, he appears out of nowhere and saves them. Is he a person, a god, or an UMA-like thing?

  • Since its known that Space Arthur has an effect similar to Burn Nova, where its played when you would lose to survive and end the opponent's turn, it makes sense to have 0 Strike. Its a powerful effect all on its own, so no need to give it offensive presence as well. I imagine the CNT effect allows for that survival effect to be activated when its damaged.

Also from a lore perspective its very interesting to note that Ed/Arthur is one of the Galaxy Heritage.

    Great Leader, Malevolus Prime
    Card Number: 2020GB01-096 ★★★★
    Faction: Wonderverse
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 3
    Attribute(s): Crimenauts
    Attack: 3
    HP: 5
    Strike: 2
    Effect: [OD] (unreadable)

The Crimenaut boss! Its stats are near identical to Busterkong, who was described as having a very devastating effect, so I'd expect this card to have a similarly devastating effect.

    ZAPZAPZAP!
    Card Number: 2020GB01-097 ★★★★
    Faction: Wonderverse
    Card Type: Event
    Level: 3
    Attribute(s): Firepower, Magic
    Effect: [CNT] (unreadable)
  • (unreadable)
Flavor Text: Space rogue, zap reporter, lost earthling, and criminal organization recruiter. There was a sense of companionship among this rag-tag group.

  • Space Sphinx
    Card Number: 2020GB01-106 ★★
    Faction: Wonderverse
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 1
    Attribute(s): Mystery, Beast, Bipoverse
    Attack: 3
    HP: 4
    Strike: 1
    Effect: (unreadable)
Flavor Text: If the opponent is caught by the strong forefeet, they'll be trapped in the quiz show. You cannot escape until you get 100 correct answers.

    Neptune Yuki-onna
    Card Number: 2020GB01-116 ★
    Faction: Wonderverse
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 0
    Attribute(s): Mystery, Bipoverse
    Attack: 4
    HP: 3
    Strike: 1
Flavor Text: Adriano "Women with cold hands have a warm heart."
Yuki-onna "Well. The Earth is good."
Recruiter "I have to do this. Adriano is frozen."
Pojimu "If you plunge him into the power furnace, he'll be cured."

    Galaxy Ittanmomen
    Card Number: 2020GB01-117 ★
    Faction: Wonderverse
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 0
    Attribute(s): Mystery, Cloth, Bipoverse
    Attack: 2
    HP: 4
    Strike: 1
Flavor Text: Adriano "Its like Japan's youkai ittanmomen"
Ed "That's good. He didn't have a name. Let's call it that."
Christel "I think he liked it too."

I really enjoy these dialogue exchanges in flavor text with Wonderverse's rag-tag gang of protagonists. Looking forward to seeing more of them!

    Sudden Wormhole
    Card Number: 2020GB01-121 ★
    Faction: Wonderverse
    Card Type: Event
    Level: 0
    Attribute(s): Accident
    Effect: [CNT] (unreadable)
  • (unreadable)
Flavor Text: "The design of the frame of this card opens up the folded extra space" Adriano said. "That's what I've come to feel. The card becomes a "gate"."

  • This card has the same Accident attribute as Haunting, so maybe its another card with the Open Card timing with similar design?

    Destiny Sword
    Card Number: 2020GB01-124 ★★★
    Faction: Exvader
    Card Type: Event
    Level: 3
    Attribute(s): History
    Effect: [CNT] (unreadable)
  • (unreadable)
Flavor Text: From the day this place was struck by the challenge from another world...It will never return to the way it was.

  • The Destiny Sword was previously stated to be similar to Duel Master's Terror Pit, meaning this is probably an Event that can destroy any enemy Unit, so its unsurprising to see this be a Level 3.

Also, a comment on collection numbers. With 133 cards in the set, and 121 being the last Wonderverse card we see before the Exvaders, Exvaders have a maximum of 12 card in the set, vs the 30 of all other colors, to make no mention of the Starter Deck cards all 4 other colors got. So Exvaders are intended as an understated faction for now, which also helps them from a flavor perspective keep their position as a mysterious invading force.

For rarity placement, Destiny Sword is the only ★★★ Exvaders are getting, as 125 is a ★. That of course also means that there are no ★★ for Exvaders in this set. As for ★★★★, there's a few possibilities. There could be 2, or there could be 1 with another Wonderverse Event placed at 122, or there could be 1 and Exvaders get a Legend. I definitely think it'll be the 2nd or 3rd option, since with 17 ★★★★, Exvaders only getting 1 means all other colors get to evenly have 4 each.

All of this means that Exvaders probably won't receive 4 Uber Rares, since they've been stated to all be ★★★★ or ★★★. That said, I personally really hope the Destiny Sword is an Uber Rare. Given its central position in the world, its a card I'd definitely want to have in Uber Rare.

    Vamha
    Card Number: 2020GB01-125 ★
    Faction: Exvader
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 2
    Attribute(s): Object
    Attack: 4
    HP: 4
    Strike: 2
    Effect: (unreadable)
Flavor Text: What are you. Where are you going to take me?!

    Debowler
    Card Number: 2020GB01-126 ★
    Faction: Exvader
    Card Type: Unit
    Level: 1
    Attribute(s): DWM
    Attack: 2
    HP: 2
    Strike: 1
    Effect: (unreadable)
Flavor Text: Neither Volnar nor the ARK have had any communication with the Exvaders. Everyone who has read their hearts has gone mad.

Lastly, we have a few cards we only got very small images of during the demonstration of the playing field.
