Gate Ruler Sales Report

Posted on 24th November, 2020 at 11:44am CST
Less than 2 days remain until the rules and demo deck are revealed! The sleeves we talked about in yesterday's article are now available on AmiAmi!

Gate Ruler's first commercial has been released on twitter. We can't really get any new card information out of it, as effects are hidden once again. We could see the full details of this card however, since it is a vanilla we hadn't seen before.

Werewolf Warrior
Card Number: 2020GB01-049 ★
Faction: ATLAS
Card Type: Unit
Level: 1
Attribute(s): OWL, Beast, Darkness
Attack: 4
HP: 3
Strike: 2

Also, in this bit of gameplay we can see multiple Event cards that do not have CNT, fully confirming that these will exist. Since so many Events do have CNT and thus contribute towards your CNT limit, Events like these are likely to be very important.

Lastly, we see the Apprentice Ruler at one point, whose stats appear to be a bit higher than other Rulers we've seen, seeming to boat a Life stat of 12 and a Attack stat of 4.

And finally, the meat of today's article! Ikeda has posted a sales report for Gate Ruler's pre-orders in this article on the official site, which we have translated into English below.

Thank you to everyone, and report
The number of orders for the first Gate Ruler order has been confirmed.

Thank you for your reservations of this unproven product.

We would like to report the current situation with gratitude to everyone.

Annual TCG sales are roughly divided into these four scales:

  • Mainstay: 30 billion yen/year
  • Mega Hit: 5 billion yen/year
  • Big Hit: 1 billion yen/year
  • Hit: 500 million yen/year

Gate Ruler aimed to achieve the "hit" sales of 500 million yen/year, where it can be continued as a business, so that everyone who picks it up can enjoy it for a long time.

When a new TCG is released, if it is a hit immediately, then its orders will swell to 10 times its initial orders. Thanks to you, the sales for the initial order have surpassed the initial sales for "Hit" and "Big Hit", to reach the initial sales of a "Mega Hit". (see Note 1)

This is all thanks to everyone who put their faith in Gate Ruler. Thank you so much.

At the current order pace, there will likely be a shortage of Starter Decks & High Rarity Packs, and normal Booster Packs are expected to be sold out. We are considering increasing production, but that would happen 1 month after the official release. We will give more details about additional production at that time.

After the release of the rules and the demo deck in the next few days, combined with the increased exposer from our ambassadors and influencers, it is possible we will receive even more attention than expected.

As a new publisher, there are many places we might not be able to reach, which may cause inconvenience. We would like to make improvements one by one and make an effort to meet everyone's expectations.

Thank you for your cooperation with Gate Ruler.

    (Note 1)

Usually, for a "Mega Hit" TCG that will reach annual sales of 5 billion yen, can be said to be successfully on track to that status if the initial "wait and see" order is about 50 million yen. After release, if it is popular from there, and the sales of the 1st release surpass 1 billion yen, it will become a "Mega Hit" with annual sales of 5 billion yen.

Gate Ruler is currently accepting orders for nearly 70 million yen in Booster Packs and High Rarity Packs, excluding the Starter Decks. Post-launch growth does not always go the way I've described, but if it does, Gate Ruler could grow into a "Mega Hit" TCG.

However, in order to keep a "release pace that allows you to play casually", Gate Ruler plans to only release products 4 times a year, at most 5 times. Therefore, even if its on route to where other TCGs would reach annual sales of 5 billion yen, reaching annual sales of 3 billion yen would be good.

In the first place, we were aiming for annual sales of 500 million yen, so this is still quite unexpected. How far can we grow with your help? Or will we not be able to grow that far? The future is uncertain, but we've received orders that far exceed our expectations, and all parties involved feel tense. I hope to maintain these good relations.
