We have product info including MSRPs, new information on the vanity rarity known as Uber Rares, and several new cards, but real quick before we get into that, a couple things to go over.
First, if you saw our previous article on the effect of Vastorus Rex's effect make sure to reread it, as there was originally a mistranslation of the effect that has since been corrected.
Secondly, we have started making unofficial English Proxies and posting them in this article. That article will be updated as we create new proxies.
Moving onto the news, the official Gate Ruler twitter linked to a video of the Distributor & Retailer Briefing Session. The tweet has since been deleted, but the video is still acessible so let's go over the information.
While we already knew the game would be released on December 26th, a Prerelease being held on December 12th is new. With that, seems we'll know the entire 1st set only a couple weeks after the free trial deck drops.
Prices on Starter Decks! This is a bit more expensive than the standard prices in Japan, though if the price was unchanged for English release, it wouldn't be too out of the ordinary.
Booster Pack
1 pack contains 5 cards: 250 yen (about $2.40 USD)
1 box contains 36 packs: 9000 yen (about $85 USD)
1 case contains 12 boxes. 1 master case contains 48 boxes.
Compared to the average pack price in Japan this is pretty high. Most 5 card packs in Japan cost 150-200 yen. Though to be fully fair you have things like Vanguard packs which are 300 yen for 7 cards. The price is overall a bit concerning, specifically for the Japanese market. The full box price is much higher than you'd usually see over there. Though personally, I'm not too concerned. After all, Ikeda owns Card Kingdom, one of Japan's largest card shop chains. He's far than someone unfamiliar with the market, and the impression of attendees seemed to be positive, so it will probably be fine.
High Rarity Pack
1 pack contains 13 cards: 2400 yen (about $23 USD)
1 box contains 10 packs: 24000 yen (about $230 USD)
1 case contains 12 boxes. 1 master case contains 48 boxes
This product seems very similar to Magic: the Gathering's recent Collector's Packs. These do appear to be fully foil from what we've heard, unlike the MtG Collector's Packs. A member of our discord, Inanaku Muu, who has a youtube you can check out here, translated what Ikeda said about the High Rarity Pack during the briefing session.
Moving on from there, Ikeda also did a livestream yesterday where he released more news. Thank you to our translator, Orenji Reiji, as well as the Japanese summary blogs at gateruler.net and gerageratusin.com for help gathering this information.
Better image of the booster box! On the front we see a ton of cards, though they're all ones we've seen before, and knew the faction of, and the images are much too small to see what they do. However, it does look like Raguo the Ushi-oni is a vanilla unit.
On the close up to the front, we can see that there's a QR code that leads to a video tutorial that's 3 minutes long. Even shorter than the 5 minutes to learn that we'd previously heard!
Next, Ikeda talked about the Starter Decks. A lot of it was information we already knew, but it was said that some cards in the Starter Deck won't come in foil, but will be available in foil elsewhere. Assumedly this is referring to the High Rarity Pack. Some new artwork was shown as well.
First, from GS01 "Youkai & Giant Robo":
Space Phantom Recruiter was mentioned to have an effect that "recruits" enemy units. Invasion Emperor was mentioned in the past to have an effect that sounds similar, so making some form of taking control of enemy units will be a theme for Crimenaut cards?
The Event featuring Space Phantom Recruiter was mentioned to be a "strong counter cards".
Next, from GS02 "Demon Dragon Summoning"
The name of this card was not given, but it was mentioned to be another Abyss Symphonia unit, one that only requires you to return 2 Darkness cards, making it a good early game option for Abyss Summons.
New images of the card back were revealed! A much better look at it compared to the digital image we got before. The red looks lighter than it did before, which in my opinion, looks much better.
Uber Rares! This is the vanity rarity for Gate Ruler, that Ikeda has previously compared to Yu-Gi-Oh's Ultimate Rares. Its an unprecedented card foiling, where the color of the character remains the same and the background and frame look like an iron plate. This is just a guess, but I think there will be 4 Uber Rares per faction per set. For Yomajin Front we've seen ones numbered UR09, UR10, and UR12. That's enough space for 2 factions with 4 Uber Rares before the ones belonging to Yomajin Front, but assuming an equal number per faction, you'd need a massive 8 per faction for it to only be 1 faction before Yomajin Front, so 4 per faction seems about right.
Both of these are new cards, so let's talk about them.
Kamigakari (2020GB01-UR09 4*)
Faction: Yomajin Front
Card Type: Unit
Level: 2
Attribute(s): God
Attack: 5
HP: 2
Strike: 2
Effect: [OD] You may choose 1 card on your opponent's field, and destroy it. If you do, choose 1 card on your field, and destroy it.
"Obstacle" When combat damage is dealt to this, select an enemy unit and deal the same damage to it.
Flavor Text: When the gods and youkai appeared, rather than being surprised the Japanese felt nostalgic.
Kamigakari shares the "Obstacle" effect with the other Unit from the same artist which we discussed in a previous article. That effect is still very powerful of course, with a lot of applications as we talked about too. Kamigakari also has more offensive presence with its 2 Strike and isn't quite as vulnerable to removal with its 2 HP.
Its Overdrive effect seems quite good too. 1-for-1 removal on anything on the opponent's field when you see Kamigakari on a drive. A much more universal effect than Nature of Cherry Blossoms. Since drives happen when the Ruler attacks, you can set yourself up to sacrifice a unit by attacking with one your units before your Ruler, and sacrificing it. Alternatively, you could just sacrifice one of your less useful sets as well.
Platinum King, Albafort (2020GB01-UR01 4*)
Faction: Volnar
Card Type: Unit
Level: 3
Attribute(s): Dragon, Dragon Lord
Attack: 7
HP: 6
Strike: 2
Effect: [Penetrate] (When this attacks and destroys the unit in your opponent's defensive zone, attack the Ruler)
When this is Special Summoned by [Creation Summon], heal 1 life.
Flavor Text: Within the flesh of a Dragon Lord is "the reason of another world".
Another form of special summon! We actually saw mention of this well before Abyss Summon, but now we see it in full. It seems to work quite differently from Abyss Summon, with none of the requirements we see on Vastorus Rex. Presumably they get overall weaker effects. Or perhaps Creation Summon checks the top X cards of your deck for a target to summon? Maybe it could need to summon from your hand? Lots of possibilities.
Regardless, Albafort seems quite good. Stats are decently impressive based on what we know, with Penetrate to give it some good offensive presence, and an on summon heal, which Vastorus Rex needs the set-up of 5 Darkness in the cemetery to achieve.
Also mentioned was this card "Haunting" which has most of its details blurred out but can be seen to be Level -5 and have a CNT effect to play itself. Very perplexing card, that makes it even harder to guess what Level might be. Ikeda said it was similar to another card he'd previously talked about, "Disaster!!", which was said to have a powerful effect but was a card you wouldn't want to draw.
When asked if there would be Gate Ruler sleeves releasing alongside it, which Ikeda said they're currently developing them and hope to be ready to release sleeves alongside the launch.
There will be a magazine book released several days before the launch on December 26th, which will contain the free trial deck and 2 copies of a promo card.
There's also a booklet that card shopswill get in about a month's time will get on a monthly basis, which will contain a promo card. It will also have an illustration and some lore, and will cost 300 yen (about $3 USD).
Lastly, a new kaiju illustration was shown! This is the subject of the latest naming contest.
With Gate Ruler's card back design the last thing I was worried about was whether to go with white or black. I wanted to express the brightness beyond the gate with a reddish white line, but I was convinced by the overwhelming majority opinion that "red and black simply look cool".
If the white version is popular, we will make it into a sleeve.

The "Land Warfare Expansion Weapon "Masurao" 1st Machine" that will be included in the Starter Deck will have Double Attack, and while its a strong unit independently, it can be combined with the "2nd Machine" from the 1st Booster Pack to become "Combined Expansion Weapon "Masurao Kongotai"".
The illustration was made with the theme of "a rugged design that looks like the Self-Defense Forces might make it, with the feeling of heroism combined with national sentiment".
In terms of the game, I struggled to balance the combination system, but I think we have created an interesting and original combination system.

High rarity packs are Very expensive- $24 a pack of 13 cards. Every single card is super high rarity. This is for people who want to make high rarity decks and 'oh wow it's expensive I'm gonna buy it and record a video for youtube'
These sorts of products make excitements. these packs will also include cards that don't have a rarity- so in this pack it may have a common card that isn't normally available holo but is well used and loved.
