Tons of New Illustrations!

Posted on 6th September, 2020 at 10:03pm CST
Ikeda posted a ton of new information yesterday, September 5th, including several new artworks, and yet another sample of a card frame! We've got a lot to cover, so let's get right into it!

First up, Ikeda showed the current Wonderverse non-foil and foil test frame:

"The Gate Ruler test print I showed you the other day is just a prototype. The final product version will be even better. For example, there will be shadows and black lines inserted between the illustration and the frame, which will make it pop and look three-dimensional rather than flat.

The new Wonderverse frame is the same at first glance, but the little details have been improved. The Counter (CNT) icon on the top left is no longer "below the frame", making it easier to see independently. Similarly, the attribute field on the top right was below the frame in the test print, but it is now above the frame.

We will improve the frames more and more as we approach the final product version." (Sources: 1 2)

Next, Ikeda said this in response to someone saying that they were not used to seeing the test frames:

"Its okay. Its normal, most people are not used to seeing test frames. Actually, I was the same. (laughs)
The final product version will be better to a surprising degree!" (Source)

Next, Ikeda revealed a new card art with a very different art style from what we've seen previously:

"New illustration reveal.
Event card "Disaster!!"

It is an ATLAS card, but I think you'll be surprised by its very different art style. Actually, this is a card that a player won't want to draw in some cases, so I chose for it to get a distinct art style from others so that the player can understand its difference as soon as they draw it." (Source)

In a response to a reply to the tweet, Ikeda elaborated a bit on what he said about the card not wanting to be drawn:

"This time, a system I have not seen in a conventional TCG "a card that has a reason to be used in a deck, but would be bad to draw" is used, which I find very addictive and interesting." (Source)

Another follow up tweet Ikeda made about Disaster, this time about its unique art style:

"The art style for this illustration is very different from past Gate Ruler illustrations, so I was worried people would be confused and there would be many negative opinions. However, it seems to be very popular." (Source)

Next, Ikeda talked about a new name contest for the unit featured in the art of "Disaster!!", and while it will likely be too late for any of our readers to enter by time they read this article, there is lots of information about the unit's character here so we are translating it:

"We are looking for a name for the devil girl on "Disaster!!". Her basic character setting is as follows: "Although she is not an Exvader, a natural terrorist demon who attacks the ATLAS army almost on instinct, because she is hated by God and those who believe in him."

Her mental age is low, so she sometimes speaks awkwardly. She is by no means a good kid, she is a real devil. While she is chased by both humanity and OWL, she has the ability to change her appearance and is crafty enough to never be caught. Although she has no interest in the war between Earth and the Exvaders, she travels freely and may lend her power to atheists she takes a liking to.

The illustrator is Mitarou.

You don't need a long name. Please give us a short name. The application period is until tomorrow! (This time, the name of the contest winner will not be written on the card. Please note that this is an emergency measure)" (Sources: 1 2 3)

[arimg]https://twitter.com/ikettitencho/status/1302459257623781376[/arimg]Ikeda then revealed another artwork from Mitarou, this time for Wonderverse:

"Mitarou's "Disaster!!" was so popular that we're revealing another of Mitarou's illustrations for Gate Ruler. Today is a Mitarou festival!

Wonderverse Unit Card "Milky Way Coast Guard"

Its a stupid name, but that's the nature of the world he comes from.
He has the image of a corrupt police officer." (Source)

Ikeda then revealed another illustration for an Event card, again from ATLAS:

"Event Card "ATLAS Army Normandy Great Exercise"

"To reclaim the Holy Land, the European Union Army, OWL, and Zoo Force conduct joint exercises on the coast of Normandy. The goal is a landing exercise to retake the Cyprus island base"

Mythical giants form an army with near-future soldiers. This world view is ATLAS. At the bottom right is the Panjang drum. It seems to work properly this time." (Sources: 1 2)

Next, Ikeda posted about yet another new illustration:

"I will not say his name. It is probably the first time in 26 years that Shiro Ono has personally drawn this character! I like him. Ban Enma from Buddyfight 100 was a homage to him.
(The frame will be changed to Yomajin Front)" (Source)

"He is called Mr. Dead Language and is a character made by Shiro Ono. As the name implies, he speaks in dead words and his clothing is old. He was a very funny character. As said before, Ban Enma from Buddyfight 100 was a homage to him." (Source)

In a retweet of our tweet of yesterday's article, Ikeda talked a bit more about the ARK's art:

"Event Card "Dimensional Navigation Ship, ARK"

This art might not be received well by young people, but I think some old fashioned nerds who really like science fiction will appreciate it." (Sources)

Next, Ikeda talked a bit about the design of ATLAS in a reply:

"ATLAS is a faction with many cards that experienced TCG players will like.
Yomajin Front also has many complex and tricky cards." (Sources)

Finally, the last time we're covering today is a little thread Ikeda had when someone responded to the reveal of "Disaster!!" by bringing up the Disaster group from Season 1 of Future Card Buddyfight. Ikeda said it'd be nice to have reincarnated characters. The replier says they'd like to see Ikeda, and then says a world with many researchers would fit him. To that Ikeda wonders if Elf would be a mad scientist of Wonderverse, or a serious researcher of the Yomajin Front. Ikeda then also says he would like a Kyoya reincarnated in the world of Gate Ruler to live a calm and happy life. Ultimately, Ikeda says its all things he wishes he could do, as those characters still belong to Bushiroad. (Sources)

Personally, as a big fan of Buddyfight, I think it would be fun to have characters in Gate Ruler who are homages to characters from Buddyfight at some point in the future!
